Choosing a single standout memory from my time at Udgam feels almost impossible as everyday felt like a blessing. Be it the innovative science projects that we all did, or the numerous worksheets, I thoroughly enjoyed it all. However if I have to mention one thing, it would be the blue, green, yellow and red ribbons being given to the students during my 5th Std for the proficiency and use of English language. That really motivated us all immensely to freely express ourselves in English, solidifying our grasp of the language while making us comfortable with it.
When I think about what shaped me the most at Udgam, the answer is clear: the teachers. Without any exaggeration I can claim that each and every teacher at Udgam had a deep, meaningful, and everlasting impact on me and I’m sure on the rest of the pupils. That is why, I am only going to highlight my two principals- Pratima Teacher and Radhika Teacher. The way they ensured that academics and morals were given the utmost preference, with a kind yet firm command of the entire school was awe-inspiring. Their guidance, even when accompanied by the occasional punishment, was transformative., I firmly believe that we were lucky to have two of the most dynamic academicians leading the school together. The school and the students will eternally regard them with the highest respect and honor.
Family and friends have been absolutely the most important aspect of my life. I am incredibly fortunate to have formed extremely strong friendships with quite a few of my classmates. Most of us started Udgam since kindergarten and evolved from being classmates to being best friends. We have stayed in touch regularly even after school and at one point, there were enough of Udgamites in New York that we could do reunions. I am sincerely grateful to Udgam for giving me a lifetime of friendships.
Whenever I reflect on my school days, it instantly brings a smile on my face, even in the darkest of times. I remember a shy kid on his first day of kindergarten, being nervous about what’s to come. It is safe to say that was the last time I felt nervous at Udgam. The walls of this school, while being terribly rough, are filled with so much care and concern, that I would feel extremely confident and powerful. On a more candid note, Udgam has provided me with the most consistent happiness so far in my life. 14 years’ worth of joy.
Once again, a sincere thank you to all my teachers, school staff, “Van valas” and my peers for these wonderful years.
