Guru Purnima was celebrated on the 3^rd of July 2012.  A special song in the assembly depicting respect to ‘gurus’ set the mood for this auspicious day.  Students and teachers decorated the soft boards with pictures and writing on the guru-shishya tradition, much revered in our country.  Students paid respects all their teachers on this day. In Sankrit classes, students recited slokas in Sanskrit and also enacted the story of Dronacharya and Eklavya.

To invent you need a good imagination and a pile of junk. So said Thomas A. Edison.  On 30^th June 2012, four of our students participated in an event named INNOVATURE.  They are Sharan Jhaveri and Saumya Gupta of Std. IX and Shriraj Gandhi and Lohit Marodia of Std. X.  They participated in a design workshop named ‘Best out of Waste’ with the theme of ‘Innovating Sustainability’.  

Helen Keller’s 132^nd Birth anniversary

As a tribute to differently abled people across the world,  an elocution seminar was organized for Classes 6, 7 and 8 on 27th June, 2012 on the occasion of  132^nd birth anniversary of Helen Keller. Apart from this, teachers carried on discussions and activities in the classrooms to make students aware of such people and be sympathetic to them.

Not only Helen Keller but all those warriors who lived and are living their life with disabilities such as Deafness, Blindness and dumbness together were remembered. These courageous people are not just living but leading their life peacefully.

Representatives from SENSE International visited our premises to witness and become the part of the event.  Their Advocacy Officer, Mr. Zaheer Dhale, who is himself deaf, blind and dumb interacted with students in sign language and left children thinking how differently- abled people lead their life. The team was happy to see the school trying to sensitize children about such people. They encouraged and appreciated our student speakers by giving away remeberance gifts to them.

On this day, soft boards of the school displayed write-up and pictures related to life stories of such courageous people.

The whole exercise was a successful one as the message of being courteous and polite to disabled people was passed on with great ease to the children. 

Udgam has registered 100% result for the second year in Class 10 examination of CBSE. 135 students appeared for the exam in March 2012. The break up is as follows:

Ram Kathakar, Shri Morari Bapu visited Udgam on 24^th April. He was welcomed by our tiny tots. Shri Morari Bapu had a look at the school premises. Bapu visited classrooms, computer lab as well as the extended wing of the school. He was also introduced to the Homoepathy clinic run by the school. 

A session was arranged for students of Std.VIII on ‘Appreciating Indian Music and Tabla’ on 11th April, 2012. It was conducted by Mr.Rajiv Bhatt. He explained the theoretical parts with the help of a presentation. Mr.Bhatt was accompanied by his son, Soham (An Udgam Student) who gave the Tabla demonstration. The session was interactive, wherein students actively participated in the Q&As. It was thoroughly enjoyed by the students. In fact three of our students played tabla and received a loud round of applause from their fellow mates, teachers and the guest himself.

Ms. Radhika Iyer, Principal – Udgam School has been awarded as ‘BEST TEACHER’ in Gujarat State Category for the 2nd International English Olympiad. IEO is conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation in collaboration with The English And Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad. Over 20000 schools from more than 1000 cities competed for this category. The selection was done by the Academic Council on the basis of :

a) The total number of participating students from a school.
b) The performance of participating students from a school.

2nd International English Olympiad was held in January 2012. Following are the school toppers.  Toppers of classes II to X got medal and certificates and those of XI and XII were awarded certificates.

Mst. Venkatesh Iyer of Std.XII secured 59th position in International ranking.
