A very informative seminar on “Understanding & Managing Child’s Negative Emotions” was organized by Udgam Pro Activity Club for parents of classes 1 to 3 on Oct 10th.

Our guest speaker Dr. Swapna Palkar, a child psychologist, advised parents to understand child’s tantrums and see what’s wrong with the child. Tantrums may happen when kids are tired, hungry, or uncomfortable; or because they can’t get what they want.

Being a parent one may feel embarrassed and ashamed when the child is whining, crying, screaming, kicking and hitting in front of others. She advised mothers not to label the child and handle the situation calmly as showing tantrums are a normal part of child development.

The 8th Inter School Elocution Event organised by the Rotary Club of Ahmedabad was held on Saturday, 12th September, in which participants from our school excelled.

Aditya Agarwal stood First in the Class XI group and Harshi Shah stood Second in the Class IX group. Both spoke eloquently on the topic ‘Conservation is survival’. The other participants were Dharita Naik from Class V, Pranshav Lakhia from Class VI, Kahini Chudgar from Class VII, Mohal Rajyaguru from Class VIII and Yagn Purohit from Class X. ‘Our teacher Mrs. Neha Manghani was awarded a certificate in recognition of the training that she had imparted to the participants’.

Every year this day is celebrated to commemorate the mother of all languages. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Shri Tej Narayan Jha of ‘Akhandanand Ayurved College’, Ahmedabad.
The program began with the melodious chanting of hymns in Sanskrit. This was followed by a Shloka recitation competition by students of Class VI and VII. The young students enthralled the audience with their beautiful rendering of verses from the Bhagwad Gita, Devi Bhagwatam, Yajur Veda and the Rig Veda.
Students of Class VIII enacted a skit on ‘Subhashitani’ stressing the importance of inculcating virtues and values in our lives.
This was followed by a Shloka chanting competition in which students of classes VIII and IX recited Krishnaashtakam, Bhujangaashtakam, Mahishasurmardini, captivating the audience.
Last but not the least, there was a quiz on Indian Mythology in which everyone enthusiastically took part. Students of classes VIII and IX conducted the quiz.
The events were anchored perfectly by students of class IX.
The programme concluded with a speech in Sanskrit by Shri Tej Narayan Jha wherein he emphasized the increasing relevance of Sanskrit and its global importance.
After the prize distribution function, Sanskrit Day came to a close with the Vote of Thanks delivered by a student of Std VI.

Inter-class Math Quiz was conducted for students of Class VII . It was a revision quiz based on the chapters that are part of SA 1 syllabus. . There were seven teams and students were selected impromptu from all the classes. Roll numbers were called randomly after every round. There were 5 rounds. The quiz had variety of questions.
There were questions for audience too.
Class 7th E bagged the first prize, 7th B second and 7th D third.

Students of Class III had a very interesting activity on Saturday when they mixed ingredients of Bhel and had the yummy mix for lunch. The activity helped them to learn an easy and healthy food recipe which they can make even at home. When children make things on their own they become more responsible and don't throw eating tantrums. Of course the habit of sharing was also very pronounced among the chilren during the snack break. Catch glimpses of the children happily tucking away into Bhel.

In order to celebrate the birthday of Lord Krishna, a celebration was organized in Pre primary section of Udgam School for Children. All children came in traditional dresses. Some boys came dressed as ‘Krishna’ and some girls came dressed as ‘Radha’. Beautiful decorations were put up to make this event more cheerful and colorful. Children danced on the tunes of garba. A ‘Matki Phod’ event was also organized to mark the mischievous nature of ‘Bal Gopal’.

Prime Minister addressed the nation on the eve of Teacher's Day. Udgam Students viewed the live show in the school auditorium.

The process of life is easy to understand through activities like Seed Germination. Students of Class I were involved in an activity in which they planted seeds in small pots to begin with. Then they kept the pots out in the sunlight and watered the pots everyday (during the period of school closure last week our school peon watered them). Lo! Behold! The seeds sprouted to produce small plants that grew bigger by the day. In fact right now you can see the beautiful plants that are a part of the effort made by the children. The little ones are very proud of their pots and are taking great care to ensure that they thrive properly. This activity not only taught them the process of life but also helped to instill the value of responsibility. Of course love for nature is an added benefit of the activity. We hope that the little gardeners can have their own patch or pots at home too as it can be a very rewarding hobby.

The students of Class XI Commerce had an invaluable experience when they visited the Income Tax Department yesterday. They were introduced to the tax structure prevalent in our country by means of a presentation by the Deputy Commissioner. They learnt that it is not the responsibility of the government alone to improve the situation of the country but we, as citizens and tax payers, need to perform our duties to ensure that everything is in order. They were shown a PPT to establish how India has progressed in each and every aspect of life over the past decades. They were also given a lesson on different types of taxes and the process of paying taxes which includes obtaining a PAN card, paying tax, filing returns, and new aspects of tax paying. The visit was very rewarding and they could relate all they learnt with their text book knowledge. The visit winded up with a round of delicious snacks.

Pictures of the grand event reflect the efforts put in by the children, teachers and parents of the Udgam Preschool. Students of preprimary came attired in the three colours of the flag and performed on patriotic songs. KG students made small flags to pin to their shirts and also make collages of Indian flag and related pictures. They also had hand prints in tricolor. They even enacted roles of national leaders.The softboards were decorated with national symbols.
