The students of Class V were involved in an activity wherein they were encouraged to make ‘Weaver Bird’s nest using waste materials. They were given two topics Dream House and Weaver Bird nest which they made with a lot of enthusiasm. Through this activity they not only learnt to make best from waste but also develop their creative skills.

SAFETY AND FIRST AID AWARENESS
Students of Class 5 actively participated in skits portraying the importance of ‘SAFETY AND FIRST AID’. Children had lots of fun enacting small happenings of day to day life where due to carelessness people tend to meet with accidents. Though this activity children were made aware about safety rules they need to follow at various places like roads, swimming pool, home, public places to name few. More over children also understood the importance of providing first aid in the time of emergency to save lives.
YELLOW DAY OBSERVED
Children of Class IV celebrated Yellow Day. Yellow is the colour of optimism, glory, sunshine, enlightenment and happiness. Yellow colour promises positive future as well as energy. Yellow Day was celebrated on Thursday because in Gujarat and many other states, people wear yellow colour clothes on almost all Thursdays. Children sat together and shared their variety of food items such as bananas, mangoes, papaya and also brought dhokla, handwa, khandvi and sweets like jalebi, magas, laddu, bundi, mung dal ka halwa etc.
ORIENTATION FOR CLASS III
Exams can be quite alarming if the child has to deal with them all of a sudden. This is true for students of Class III, the stage from which they are assessed on the basis of formal exams too.
So an orientation session for parents was held in the auditorium to familiarise them with the exam pattern.
Principal Mrs Sujata Tandon began the session and spoke to the parents at length. Vice Principal Mrs Meetika Sharma took them through the various stages through a presentation to make the picture clear to all concerned. A question answer session followed which was handled by Supervisor Mrs Arathi Kellogg. Overall it was a very informative session and helped to clarify doubts. We hope students will be able to settle in better now that the ‘exam’ part has been dealt with.
MOM BY MY SIDE Day 1 of Playgroup
To acclimatise the tiny ones of Playgroup to school and new environment, on the first day of Playgroup, mothers were asked to accompany their children and sit with them in the class for an hour. They started the day by praying together. The children were very happy to have their mothers with them and the mothers in their turn were helping the children settle in without them.
Needless to say it was an enjoyable day for all.
TRAINING FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS
A training was conducted for the Middle Section Teachers by the Principal, Ms. Radhika Iyer .The topic was ‘How to Conduct Formative Assessments?”
Formative Assessment or FA as popularly known is an important part of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE). Teachers have been conducting FA every year, this training gave further insight into how to conduct activities effectively. Radhika Madam shared various activities that can be conducted by teachers in various subjects. They include oral quiz, group discussion, group recitation, crossword, drama, role play, debate, open text assessments, writing tasks etc. She also discussed various nuances to be taken care of while conducting these activities. Teachers also shared their experiences about innovative activities conducted by them in the previous year which included making Sanskrit dictionary, newsroom, collage making on social issues, seal making, flower arrangement, weaving and many more.
Teachers Training
A training was conducted for the Middle Section Teachers by the Principal, Ms. Radhika Iyer and the Vice-Principal of the Middle Section, Mrs. Noopur Desai. The topic was ‘How to Prepare an Effective Worksheet’. While all teachers are familiar with worksheets and they have become an integral part of teaching at Udgam, it is very important to make them interesting and educative. Firstly, the Principal advised the teachers to be clear about the objective of the worksheet and what outcome they expect – whether it is for practice, revision, teaching or extra content. Then she enumerated the characteristics of a good worksheet, the content and also the format like spacing, font size, punctuation marks, heading and sub-heading. She stressed that the content should not go against our values or sensibilities. Most importantly, they should avoid spelling mistakes. Specimen worksheets were shown to the teachers.
Apart from worksheets, the training also included discussion on effective use of blackboard. The Vice-Principal gave some tips on the use of black board – to write in an orderly manner, to take care of spelling and capital and small letters and write legibly.
On the whole, the session was a learning experience for all the teachers as they shared their views.
WORLD HEALTH DAY OBSERVED
'Health is wealth' – this slogan was prominent in the activities observed today by the students of Classes 3 to 5.
Class 3 watched a very informative video which made them aware of the importance of good health. They learnt about the need to exercise daily and follow an exercise regime. They also came to know of the many benefits of yoga and meditation in daily life and practised chanting ‘Om'. Standard practices of hygiene were discussed such as the proper way to wash hands, brushing teeth twice a day, bathing, exercising and eating healthy food.
Class 4 observed the day by bringing healthy foods like salads, vegetables, fruits, etc. They also made posters related to healthy food and took part in speech and debate. Activities were conducted to stress upon the importance of hygiene and health.
Class 5 celebrated the day with great vigour. They actively participated in a wide array of activities like poster making, slogan writing, advertising, poem writing and so on covering various aspects related to good health. They were made aware that for having a healthy body they need to exercise regularly, maintain personal hygiene, get vaccinated and go for regular medical check ups as only a healthy body can nurture a healthy mind.
ACTIVITIES GALORE
During the month of March the children of Preschool were involved in different activities like thumb printing, shapes concepts, colouring, palm printing and paper tearing. They were taught different concepts through games which the little ones thoroughly enjoyed.
Last Day of the School
Pre-Primary children celebrated their last day in a fun filled way.They have taken to the garden to play and enjoy at the fullest.
