Blindfold Activity on Organ System

Recycling is very important and the sooner we introduce our students to the importance of this process , the better. A special English activity was conducted in class 5 in which the students made charts and models based on recycling. Some charts demonstrated the separation of waste by showing blue and green bins. There were charts that showed the recycling plants, how clothes are recycled etc. and models of plastic bags, paper bags , used plastic bottles that can be used as fans with batteries.

Through this activity, the students got a hands-on experience how to make the best out of waste. The practice of effective recycling can effectively reduce the usage of raw materials, reuse the existing waste to make new products.

We sincerely hope that such awareness helps our students in understanding important concepts such as energy saving, protecting the environment , conserving resources and reducing landfills.

Clown Therapy by Monica Santos

Like adults, children too need a break from their daily routine. They need to break-free and just have fun, only to emerge refreshed and rejuvenated later. Today, being the last of day of their exam, a special story telling session was organized for the students of class 4. The event commenced with a finger story ‘3 Goats under the Bridge’ by renowned storyteller of Ahmedabad, Yogita Bansal Ahuja. After which entered the Spanish artist and professional standup performer, Monica Santos, for a clown therapy. Children were super thrilled, and the entire auditorium resonated with their laughter and enthusiasm. Ms. Santos, dressed like a clown, was the center of attraction!  The way she playacted the role of an explorer was interesting and immensely enjoyable. She surely rubbed off her energy while marching across the auditorium on to the students as they hardly could contain their excitement. Each one them wanted to shake hands with Monica, the explorer or share the stage with her. Monica impressed the entire audience by adding a few words in Hindi and Gujarati while speaking. Albeit this session was all about free fun but we are sure that the students understood the key aspects of storytelling and theater -such as being stage free, having the right voice modulation, intonation , confidence, energy and excitement. All in all, it was a welcome change and will definitely add on to our students’ school memory. This weekend, our 4th graders will surely hum ‘ek, do, teen -bus! Or act like an elephant or point their fingers to their temple and say ‘concentration’ ‘concentration’. It was a happy session that was indeed a positive reinforcement in the educational process.

Diya Decoration by Grade 6

Diwali is synonymous with lights and diyas. The festival of lights is never complete without decorating the house with diyas. Along with beautification, this tradition has religious significance as well.  Students of grade 6 brought in the spirit of this important Indian celebration by decorating diyas in the class. They used various materials and embellishments to adorn the diyas. Some students  also spoke about diyas, explaining what do they stand for – knowledge, prosperity, hope , health and peace.  It was a truly beautiful creative activity executed to perfection by our students.

Verb Charades for Grade 2 Students

Verb is the heart of a sentence. Once the children understand the importance of verbs and their relevance in communication, they are able to articulate their thoughts better. To make the lesson on Verbs more interesting for grade 2 students, our teachers organized a dumb charades activity for them. Each chit had a verb written on it. Children had to pick one chit at a time and enact the verbs written such as dance, sleep , sing, eat , sing etc. This activity helped the children strengthen their concept of verbs while having fun. This teaching -learning process was engaging for the little learners and ensured involvement and participation of all the students.

An Assembly on Technology for Students of Grade 2

Technology has made our lives simpler, smoother and easier but at the same time has affected our interpersonal relationships. To highlight the same, an assembly was conducted by the students of class 2.

Children were shown why Udgam School is the smartest school of Ahmedabad. With the implementation and integration of technology in education, Udgam definitely stands apart! The assembly started with the regular session of morning prayer followed by the pledge, news reading and thought of the day.

The focal point of this assembly was the use of technology and its ramifications.

The assembly was a collage of colourful and interesting performances. It started with a dance drama where the children performed a skit reflecting how technology has taken over our lives.

The entry of the Avengers (Super Heroes) depicting the 5 senses made the assembly even more exciting for the children.

For the 1st time in Udgam assembly, Class 2 students mesmerized the audience with a ‘shadow act’ to drive home the intended message. It started with birds chirping and how their sweet songs have been replaced by the unending cacophony emanating from all kinds of technological advances.  Lastly, the kids rocked the stage with their moves to the song ‘Five senses’.

To culminate the assembly, the teachers gave a speech on the same guidelines, explaining how technology can either become the sixth sense or it can block all our senses.

Rhymes Came Alive through Recitation

Rhymes Came Alive through Recitation

Recitation builds a child’s phonemic awareness. Through rhymes and poetry recitation, the little learners understand about voice inflection, pitch and intonation. Further, it enhances their vocabulary and boosts their confidence to become eloquent speakers. We, at Udgam school, understand the importance of recitation and accordingly organised a recitation activity for the Jr. KG students  in school. All the children recited a poem of their choice, with appropriate actions. This activity gave every student of junior group the opportunity to speak on stage and impress their classmates and teachers by performing confidently.
